Poppo' VS Parakang - Story Telling

Malam harinya, rumah Puang Imang dimasuki oleh poppo yang  konon ingin mencuri. Dia telah membungkus barang-barang Puang Imang dengan menggunakan sarung untuk dibawanya pergi, poppo itu tak bisa keluar dari rumah Puang Imang. Katanya, menurut pengakuan poppo itu, ia melihat dirinya dikepung air—seperti laut yang tak memiliki pantai.

Setelah Puang Imang kembali, ia menemukan poppo telah berubah wujud menjadi seorang perempuan cantik berambut panjang telanjang berdiri di ruang tengah rumahnya. Ternyata rumah Puang Imang sebelum ditinggalkan, telah disappo (dipagari) dengan baca-baca (mantera) sehingga poppo itu tak bisa keluar. Poppo itu kemudian diberi sehelai pakaian oleh istri Puang Imang dan dibiarkan pergi. Namun sebelumnya untuk membuat perempuan itu jera, rambut panjangnya dipotong nyaris habis.

Menurut kepercayaan orang bugis selain dikenal sebagai hantu pencuri Poppo juga suka mengisap darah, utamanya perempuan yang sedang melahirkan. Poppo dipercaya juga suka berada di kebun jagung atau kebun di mana banyak buah-buahan. Kesukaan poppo berada di pohon yang berbuah itu kadang digunakan oleh orang (yang berani) di musim mangga berbuah. Tentang parakang, selain suka mengisap anus orang sakit ada beberapa hal menarik lainnya. Jika seorang parakang sedang sekarat menghadapi sakratul maut, ia akan tarus mengulang-ulang kata (l)emba (pindah) sampai ada seorang dari keluarganya yang mengiyakannya. Setelah itu, orang yang mengiyakan itu akan menjadi parakang selanjutnya. Jika menemukan parakang, misalnya dengan wujud pohon pisang, orang dianjurkan untuk memukulnya sekali atau tiga kali saja. Jika sekali pukul dipercaya akan membunuhnya dan tiga kali akan membuatnya cacat.. Menurut orang-orang, suatu malam, perempuan itu tertangkap basah berwujud kambing dan dipukul dengan potongan kayu dilututnya sebanyak tiga kali. Sejak saat itulah ia berjalan dengan cara yang aneh sehingga perempuan itu dapat diketahui sebagai seorang parakang.

Dua hantu itu, parakang dan poppo adalah hantu paling populer di kabupaten Barru dan di percaya bahwa masih ada dan menyebar di Kabupaten Barru. Poppo dan parakang adalah pemakan rektum.

Poppo dan Parakang bagi orang bugis dipercayai adalah semacam hukuman turun temurun akibat  kesalahan atau pelanggaran nenek moyangnya sehubungan dengan ilmu hitam yang dipelajarinya di masa lampau.
